Junior League of Scranton Holds Annual Dinner

The Junior League of Scranton held its Annual Dinner Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Patsel’s in Clarks Summit.

– The Junior League of Scranton held its Annual Dinner Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Patsel’s in Clarks Summit.  The evening was an opportunity for provisional, active, active preferred and sustaining members to celebrate a successful year, recognize the contributions of its members and welcome a new Board of Directors. 

  Jennifer Frey, Membership Development Chairman, congratulated the 2013- 2014 provisional class members on a very successful year and project, “The Scranton Girl Tea.” Members included: Athena Aardweg, Kelly Flannery-Boland, Abigail Fitzpatrick, Chelsea Johnson, Megan Kozlowski, Maggie McGregor, Amanda McGowan, Katelyn McManamon and Lori Sayegh.

  Virginia Paoloni was named Sustainer of the Year. 

The Mary Harriman Award for exemplary service to the League was presented Mary Kate Johnston.  Ms. Johnston has been a member of the Junior League of Scranton since 2008. Ms. Johnston’s numerous roles in the League include; the nominations chair, the placement chair, a member of the sponsorship committee, recruiting vehicles for Touch a Truck and a four time chair the of Cinderella’s Closet Fashion Show.
The Margaret L. Richards Award for outstanding community impact was awarded to Maggie Nasser.  Ms. Nasser’s love of Cinderella’s Closet led her to begin the process of making the project into its own non-profit organization.  The new non-profit, Cinderella’s Closet of NEPA, held its inaugural event this past April with great success.  Ms. Nasser is a volunteer with Marley’s Mission and serves on the board for Jewish Family Service of NEPA.

Amy Paciej-Woodruff was recognized for her service as President and named Chairman of the Board.  Amie Talarico was named the next President of the Junior League of Scranton.  The 2014-2015 Board of Directors include: Amy Paciej-Woodruff, Chairman of the Board; Amie Talarico, President; Shannon Roche, President Elect; Maggie Nasser, Recording Secretary; Amy DiChiara, Treasurer; Virginia Paoloni, Sustainer Representative; Pam Janus, Nominating; Jennifer Frey, Membership Development; Gretchen Wintermantel, Community Research and Katie Gilmartin, Parliamentarian.

 

  The Junior League of Scranton is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving Scranton and its neighboring communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.  Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in, and commitment to, voluntarism.
