I-Team: Scam Warning For Verizon Customers

Customers of Verizon cellular services are being warned tonight about a text messaging scam.
Alice Walko of Hazleton says the text message she received just didn't seem right and raised her suspicions when it read that her Verizon account was frozen- Walko said, "There was no call just a short text the likes of which I have never received from Verizon"-- Dozens of Verizon customers contacted the I-Team for help--- We learned that the texting scam appears to be targeting Verizon customers exclusively-- The scammers try to convince would be victims to give out personal information-- Luzerne County Detective Chaz Balogh investigate computer-related crimes and said "People don't realize that cellphones data can be used as a key to access other personal information and that can lead to major identity theft problems-"Balogh advises not to respond to these text messages and to notify Verizon and police if they receive such a text --Verizon officials told the I-Team they would have someone get back to us with a comment--that did not occur as of this writing----
