Heroin Problem in Hazleton Makes National Headlines

An article posted on the New York Times website tells the heartbreaking story of a drug addict in Hazleton.
Hazleton, Luzerne County -- Addict ... Informant ... Mother. It's the title of an article posted on the New York Times website Friday, and it tells the heartbreaking story of a drug addict in Hazleton.

A 25-year-old mother of two, shooting up heroin in front of her children. The devastating details of the report didn't shock many people who call Hazleton home.

The article also talks about the mobile anti-crime unit, an effort started by Attorney General Kathleen Kane last year to fight violent, drug-related crime in the city.

In February, the Attorney General's office announced 150 arrests and the seizure of about 35,000 packets of heroin, as well as weapons and cash. Residents want to see the progress continue, but some said the community needs to come together and influence the next generation.

The $2.5 million project will move to various cities across the state.
