Caring Hands and Always In Stitches have not only done “Good Works” in Lackawanna County, but they have kept a lot of people warm and raised money for many local charities. Founded in Scranton in 1996 by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program(RSVP), Caring Hands members knitted and crocheted blankets, scarves, hats and mittens for various causes. The group moved to the Abington Community Library in 2008 to participate in weekly classes and to join forces with “Always In Stitches,” who made quilts for various causes and organizations. The Commissioners honored the groups, comprised of over 40 members, for their commitment to comforting others.
