Get Ready for More Roadwork in Lackawanna County

Road work on a busy section of interstate 81 North is wrapping up -- but the traffic troubles are not over in Lackawanna County. Now, PennDOT crews must shift gears and focus on the south bound lanes. Eyewitness News Reporter Brittany Sweeney has the road report update

For the past month PennDOT crews have been working on the North bound lanes of Interstate 81 from Exit 191 b - the Scranton Expressway to exit 188 Dunmore/Throop... But as of Friday (August 15) that section is almost complete.

Now the congestion will switch sides. Beginning Monday (August 18)  81 South along the same stretch will be down to 1 lane.  PennDOT spokesperson James May says crews will work around the clock for the next 3 to 4 weeks.  "What they are doing there is some deep base repair and because of that, they are literally taking out portions of the road and they can't do that work at night because the road is actually missing in that area."

May says PennDOT hopes to open the ramp from Main Avenue onto 81 North by labor day. Then the final step is to pave both sides -- which will be done at night and completed in October. The whole project is expected to be done by November.
