Friends: Teen Killed In Crash Just Got Truck For Graduation Present

According to State Police, 18-year-old Conrad Caputo III was killed in a crash Saturday afternoon. Friends tell Eyewitness News that Caputo had just graduated from high school and was driving a truck he got for a graduation present.
Polk Township, Monroe County - Taylor Yurick said the last three words she heard from 18-year-old Conrad Caputo III were 'I love you'.

The two were spending some time together Saturday afternoon.

"I got worried andIi started texting him and I got nothing," Yurick said. "I just knew in the gut of my stomach it was him."

State police say Caputo was driving his truck, with two other friends, on Hell Hollow Road in Polk Township just before 5 p.m. on Saturday. Investigators say Caputo then lost control of the truck, hit a tree, rolled the truck, and another tree.

Caputo was pronounced dead at the hospital while the two other boys had to be flown to local hospitals.

Michael Touni, was friends with all three of the boys in the truck, and he told Eyewitness News he was was supposed to be in that truck.

"If I didn't go home to put the grips on my bike I would have been there with them," he said.

Touni told Eyewitness News that Caputo, who just graduated from Pleasant Valley High School on June 13th, was easy to get along with.   

"He was funny and always told a lot of funny jokes," Touni said. "That's what everyone loved about him. He was always smiling."

Yurick said that Caputo got the truck he was driving for a graduation present.

"He cried when his dad pulled the keys out of his pocket," she recalled. "He just lost it cried! He said 'oh my God thank you so much!'"

On Sunday friends put a memorial filled with balloons and pictures of Caputo at the crash site.

Yurick said she lost a great man too soon.

"He really was my everything," she said. "I feel like i lost a part of my life."

Yurick said Caputo planned on joining the military in September.

The condition of the other two boys involved in the crash weren't available Sunday night.
