A community in Bradford County is mourning the loss of a teen who died Monday. Troopers say 18-year-old Daniel Wilber crashed his dirt bike into a car. Wilber just graduated from Troy High School a little more than a week ago.
Troy, Bradford County - Friends say that 18-year-old Daniel Wilber was someone you could count on to make you smile.

They also told Eyewitness News that he's one of the hardest working people they've ever met.

Now they're mourning his death a little more than a week after graduation.

"Whenever I would see him in the hallway he would always give me a high five," Amie Gross, who went to school with Wilber, said. "That was his thing."

Gross told Eyewitness News that her friend, 18-year-old Daniel Wilber, was someone who would always make you smile.

Gross was one of the people who went came to Troy High School Tuesday after getting word that Wilber died in a crash Monday morning.

"It's just sad," Gross said.

State police said Wilber, who lived in East Troy, was driving on Route 6 in Troy Township Monday morning. Investigators believe he was trying to stop when his dirt bike skidded into a car, sending it crashing into an SUV.

Troopers said Wilber died at the scene, but added that he was wearing a helmet.

Jared Spalding, who was close with Wilber since meeting him in first grade, said Wilber got the bike as a graduation present. He also said riding was something he loved to do.

"I'm sure if he would have wanted to go anyway that would be it," Spalding said.

Wilber graduated from Troy High School on June 13.

Spalding said he'll always remember the times the two shared on the wrestling team and racing motorcross.

"When we were little we always rode dirt bikes at my house," he recalled. "I had a track at my house and we always rode on my property and his property."

Nick Bruce, another recent Troy High School graduate, said Wilber was a hard worker.

"You would never get a mean word out of that kid," Bruce said about Wilber. "He would just bust his butt for you."

The crash is still under investigation.

Officials from Troy High School also released the following statement about Wilber's death.

"Daniel was a student at Troy High School as well as the Northern Tier Career center. He was in the Welding program at the Vo-Tech Center.  He had done very well in the program and had just received the Most Improved Second Year Student award for his program. Daniel was a great kid that loved the outdoors, loved life and always had a smile on his face as he went through the day."
