Courtyard Theater Notes-

"Lend Me a Tenor".set to begin
Hummel's Wharf - "Don't you love farce?" That's the question asked in the song "Send in the Clowns". If your answer is yes, then you should head to The Courtyard Theater in the Susquehanna Valley Mall this weekend to see the Valley Player's production of "Lend Me a Tenor". The area's most prolific performance group has chosen a riotous farce to kick off the Spring this year. They also have chosen the newest local community theater for their performance.

Saunders, the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, is primed to welcome world famous, Tito Morelli, Il Stupendo, the greatest tenor of his generation, to appear for one night only as Otello. The star arrives late and, through a hilarious series of mishaps, is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. His pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant Max believe he’s dead.
In a frantic attempt to salvage the evening, Saunders persuades Max to get into Morelli's Otello costume and fool the audience into thinking he's Il Stupendo. Max succeeds admirably, but Morelli comes to and gets into his other costume ready to perform.

Now two Otellos are running around in costume and two women are running around in lingerie, each thinking she is with Il Stupendo. A sensation on Broadway and in London's West End, this madcap, screwball comedy is guaranteed to leave audiences teary-eyed with laughter.

The reviews of the play compared it to a Marx Brothers wildcat comedy with slamming doors and people running everywhere. Winner of 3 Tony Awards and 4 Drama Desk Awards, "Lend Me a Tenor" is sure to cause a laugh riot at the Courtyard Theater.

Be sure to bring mom. It'll be a special gift for her on Mother's Day or any of the 6 days that the comedy will be at the theater. Tickets are still available for any of the 6 upcoming performances on Friday, May 9th and 16th, Saturday May 10th and 17th at 7:00 PM or the two Sunday Matinees on May 11th and 18th at 2:00 PM. Ticket prices are only $15.00 and all seats are reserved. They are available by calling the box office at 570-374-0060 weekdays between 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM, on the web at www.thecourtyardtheater.com (there is an additional $1.30 charge for Internet reservations) or at the theater 2 hours before each performance.
