Child Advocacy Center In Luzerne County Ramping Up Services

New services and a fundraiser planned
Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County- It may look like any other house in this South Wilkes-Barre neighborhood but this is not just any house. It  is a safe haven for children who are victims of crime. It is the Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center. Shannon Peduto is the executive director..

"We bring children here who have been physically abused -sexually abuse or neglected .We bring all parties to them. In previous years prior to child advocacy the children would have to go to law enforcement have to go to examinations done, they have to see doctors children and youth services with this house we bring everyone to them in one step."

Pittston police sergeant Neil Murphy says investigations involving children are always a challenge because the children are frightened to tell their stories..

Money for its services were always tough to come by since it was funded by the Luzerne County District Attorney's Office and its budget.. The C.A.C. is now a nonprofit and can raise its own funds..

The Center will host its first major fundraising event in May.  A Double Elimination wooden bat softball tournament.  It will be held May 16th through 18th.  The Pittston City Police Association is sponsoring the event.  Contact Pittston Police to sign up for the tournament.
