Boat Races in Berwick

The event is exciting outboard boat racing on the Susquehanna River at Test Track Riverfront Park in Berwick PA on June 28 and 29th from 10 am – 5pm.
“This is a big event for our area and we hope to make it an annual fundraising attraction for our community” say Ginny Crake, CEO Berwick Area United Way.
The American Power Boat Association, Berwick Area Boat Club and the Berwick Area United Way are hosting the first Berwick Area Regatta.  The event is exciting outboard boat racing on the Susquehanna River at Test Track Riverfront Park in Berwick PA on June 28 and 29th from 10 am – 5pm.

Along with the boat racing there will be a carnival with food, rides, and games for all ages starting Friday, June 27 from 12pm – 7pm and on Saturday and Sunday 9am - 7pm.  Parking is $5.  Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. The boating associations have attempted to run races in Berwick for the last 3 years in October but weather and river levels were unsafe.  “June is a better month for this type of racing with more reasonable weather and river levels” says Captain Jim Shotwell, Vice Commodore Berwick Area Boat Club.

The proceeds benefit the area Boy Scouts and the Ber-Vaughn Pool revitalization.  “This is a big event for our area and we hope to make it an annual fundraising attraction for our community” say Ginny Crake, CEO Berwick Area United Way.

This type of event brings together a lot of different people with many stories.  One in particular is the story of William Walker, a Berwick native who is a retired Lieutenant Commander of the United States Naval Reserve, who has been racing outboard boats for the last 60 years.  He has returned to reform the Berwick Area Boat Club and help host the Berwick Area Regatta.
