Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County -- The Pennsylvania Auditor General is trying to figure out how thousands of dollars in benefits ended up going to dead people.

A report released Tuesday shows more than $200,000 in benefits were provided to Electronic Benefit Transfer Cards connected to Social Security Numbers of dead people.

The Auditor General said nearly all of the money was withdrawn from the cards during the review period, but he did not find evidence of widespread fraud.

The complete audit of the EBT program is expected to be released in 2015.
