Baseball Fans Ready for New Season at PNC Field

Baseball fans are ready to play ball once again at PNC Field as the RailRiders season kicked off Thursday night in Lackawanna County.
Baseball fans are ready to play ball once again!

The gates at PNC Field in Moosic opened at 5:30 PM Thursday night for the home opener for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

There were hundreds of people waiting to get into the stadium when the gates open and with temperatures near 60-degrees, a ticket to the game was the hottest thing in town.

All day long, workers spend the day getting the stadium ready.

From hanging signs inside the stadium to making sure all the seats were washed down, the stadium was a busy place all day.

Fans also were rurnning to the box office to make sure they got tickets.

"You can't this," Fran Martin of Dunmore said. "After the winter that we had, the weather, this is a nice relief, having sun on our face and a little bit of baseball tonight. That's all you can ask for!"

The field is ready to go and fans are hoping for a good season.

"Being a huge sports fan there's nothing better than watching baseball or any sport!" Jason Warner of Pittston said.

This will be the second season for the renovated PNC Field and team managers say they have even more promotions planned for their 25th anniversary.

James Timlin was on the stadium authority board last year when the makeover was complete. This year, he will be a fan in the stands.

"Last year was a great thrill for myself. I was on the field, I got to be out there with all the officials and people who worked to make this come to fruition and it was nice. Now, I'll be sitting in the stands today," Timlin said.

With sun shining down and the gates open, fans are ready to play ball.

"I love baseball so I thought I would take advantage of the clear skies and warmer weather just to see the kick off of the season," Martin said.
