Bank Robbery Investigation in Dickson City

Police are looking for the man who robbed the NBT Bank on Main Street in Dickson City Friday afternoon.
Police in Lackawanna County are looking for the man who robbed a bank in Dickson City Friday afternoon.

Investigators say the robber jumped over the counter and swiped money from the tellers.

Police believe the thief drove to the NBT Bank on Main Street and parked right in front of the bank with a white Ford Explorer and went inside.

Right now, police are trying to determine whether he was by himself or if he had a person acting as a get-away driver.

Surveillance images show the robber walk into the bank, jump over the counter and steal money before taking off.

Investigators say a weapon wasn't shown but the thief did have a stocking over his head.

"All he was yelling at the employees was don't look at me," Dickson City Police Chief William Bilinski said. "He kept yelling at them, keep your head down, don't look at me."

The robbery stunned workers and customers at a neighboring pizza shop who didn't see the crime play out.

Police think the thief was in the bank for less than a minute.

"We have to be a lot more careful around here, especially to see they can do this in the middle of the afternoon," Mary Schultz, owner of Katrina's Pizza said.

Schultz has heard about other recent hold-ups in the area but never expected something on a Friday afternoon next door to her shop.

"We didn't expect this in the middle of the afternoon but between Costa Drug got hit a lot, Turkey Hill gets hit, Johnnie's gets hit, to have something like this happen in the middle of the afternoon, it's surprising," Schultz said.

A surveillance image also shows vehicle the robber left in.

Police believe it may be a white Ford Explorer, with the model year between 2004-2010.

No injuries were reported in the robbery.

Anyone with information on the robber or the get-away vehicle, call 911.
