Stroudsburg, Monroe County – Earlier this year, artists covered an empty Stroudsburg lot with a mural. "It's great to be able to see not only something that is beautiful but something that took a whole team of people to do,” said artist Sonia Leticia.
Now they plan to pain ten more murals; seven in Stroudsburg and Three in East Stroudsburg. "It's time we have some positive things happening in this community,” said Shane Izykowski the Director of Project Street Art. Izykowski started the street art group to make a difference in the region. Members are working on the mural project with the Pocono Arts Council.
Project Street Art member Jody Singer said, "I think it's going to help the businesses and the buildings and the areas that they are located in and bring more people to those locations."
All artists are welcome to submit design ideas. So far painters from the Bronx to Brazil have applied. Singer smiled, "It's going to give artists a platform to create something that they would like to see out and share with the public."
Once the murals are finished, the group will release a digital art app that helps people find the creations. Brandon Martelle Jones of Project Street Art said, "You'll be able to click on a pin, pull up the location, get information on the artist, artist bios, pictures, that kin of stuff. It's going to tie it all together and help you navigate."
The artists will complete all of their murals during a public event, all day September 27th. You can see a list of all the project locations and apply to pain online. For more information visit facebook.com/projectstreetart. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org.
