A Clean Slate: Bakery Owner Will Open Soap Business

A fire destroyed a woman's bakery but she isn't letting it keep her down.

Stroudsburg, Monroe County  - Around Stroudsburg people know Lisa Diemer as “The Cupcake Lady.” She owned the Kitchen Chemistry bakery which caught fire earlier this month.

Now she’s branching out and opening a soap store with soap making supplies and classes. It is at 10 North 7th Street in Stroudsburg. Lisa noted, "Soap making and all homemade products, made in America is really a popular trend right now."

Lisa has thrown herself in to organizing the new store, just a short walk away from her destroyed bakery. "The fire was such a devastating thing for my family and for kitchen chemistry and for the customers, they really felt bad,” she said.

Lisa isn’t sure when she will be able to reopen the bakery. Plans for Pocono Soap were well underway when the fire struck. Diemer hopes her old customers will support her new venture the way they have supported her through the disaster. "It's really nice to know that there really is humanity in small towns like this,” she said.

Pocono Soap opens on August 8th.
