Gilberton Borough Council will meet tonight at which time they will likely face questions about the fate of controversial Police Chief Mark Kessler. Kessler has gained nationwide attention with several internet video posting. Most show him firing a weapon and making comments directed at several Council members. Kessler was suspended for 30 days without pay by Council for allegedly taking borough owned property--the weapons- off borough property. Kessler's lawyer Joe Nahas of Frackville told this reporter that a disciplinary hearing was supposed to be held Friday morning but that he could not make it on such short notice. Nahas says an agreement was reached to postpone the hearing until next Friday and continue Kessler's suspension. Many residents who were willing to speak to Eyewitness News say they're fed up with the controversy. John Donlan said, "We are sick and tired of this. We think his message on guns is okay but not the way he is getting that message out." Naiomi Moore added, "I think he should be fired! No class whatsoever he s supposed to stand for something when wearing a badge." Council is meeting at 7 pm Friday and Eyewitness News is there with more coming up at 11.
