City of Williamsport Shuts Down Properties

The City of Williamsport would encourage any and all landlords who know that they are not in compliance with the Williamsport Rental Ordinance to contact the Codes department as soon as possible to initiate steps to comply and to protect their tenants from action that can be prevented through compliance.
From Mayor Gabe Campana and Williamsport City Police:
The City of Williamsport is taking action today upon an out of town landlord who has failed to come into compliance with the Williamsport Rental Ordinance.  The landlord/owner has been identified as Mr. Steve and Tracey Stroble of Montoursville.
The City of Williamsport discovered that the Strobles’ currently own 7 rental properties in the city of Williamsport.  The Williamsport Bureau of Codes has received numerous complaints on several of these properties over the last year and a half for various codes related issues.
It was discovered that of the 7 properties only 1 is in compliance with the Inspection requirement of the Williamsport Rental Ordinance.  The remaining 6 properties have not been inspected as required by City ordinance.  Additionally it was discovered that the Stroble’s failed to register all 7 properties as required by the Williamsport Rental ordinance.
The City is taking action today in the form of issuing 13 citations for violations of the Williamsport Rental Ordinance.  The City is also posting 6 of the 7 properties, notifying the landlord and tenants of these properties that the landlord has a duty to meet the requirements of the Williamsport Rental Ordinance to include the inspection and registration requirements by Thursday January 16, 2014.
If the Stroble’s fail to comply the City of Williamsport will have no other choice other than closing the properties down until compliance is gained.
It is not the intent of the City of Williamsport to throw innocent tenants out in the street however; we cannot and will not turn a blind eye to any landlord who continues to accept income over their responsibility.  It is a landlord’s responsibility to their tenants to ensure that they are in compliance with all applicable codes of the City of Williamsport if they wish to run a business of owning and renting real estate in the City of Williamsport.
The City of Williamsport is serious about ensuring that all rental properties located within City limits adhere to City Ordinances that were designed to make our city safer and more appealing to our residents and visitors.  The City of Williamsport would encourage any and all landlords who know that they are not in compliance with the Williamsport Rental Ordinance to contact the Codes department as soon as possible to initiate steps to comply and to protect their tenants from action that can be prevented through compliance.
