Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County- The Catholic Latino community filled St. Nicholas Church Thursday morning to celebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The day long celebration begins with the Mananitas service at 5am, when everyone sings religious songs in Spanish to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe. According to belief, the Virgin Mary appeared near present-day Mexico City. This appearance is said to have resulted in millions of conversions to Catholicism. For the Catholic Latino community, Our Lady of Guadalupe is honored as the Patroness of the Americas.
