Blue Christmas Celebration in Tamaqua

The Blue Christmas Celebration will be held at First United Methodist Church, Tamaqua 124 W. Broad Street, Tamaqua, on Wednesday, December 18 at 7:00 P.M.
What exactly is Blue Christmas? Most of us remember Elvis Presley’s song “I’ll have a Blue Christmas Without You.”  To refresh our memories on the words “When those blue snowflakes start falling, that’s when those blue memories start calling.”  Those blue memories are what Blue Christmas is all about.  We are coming upon the time of year when the days get shorter, and of course, and we become surrounded by a lot of darkness.  This time of the year can bring back memories of past pain and sorrow.  For many, even though this is called a “holiday season”, it is no holiday at all.  Often it is filled with difficult times – the loss of a loved one, the breakup of a relationship, the loss of a job or some difficulties and humps to get over.  Sometimes we just feel that we are under a lot of pressure.  This service allows for some time to recognize that this season is not a joy for everyone.  When other people around us are just going “merrily along”  there are many of us who would rather that this holiday season just go away.  This is a service is filled with scripture readings, poetry, that allow us to express our inner feelings.  It also allows you to sing, pray and offer up our pain, loneliness, anxiety and fear to the one whose birth we eagerly await…Jesus Christ.  Those that attend usually find peace and comfort in this service knowing that they are not alone in their feelings.
