·  LGBT activist Candace Gingrich-Jones will present a lecture, The Accidental Activist: A Personal and Political Journey, at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, in Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Kehr Union Ballroom. The presentation is free and open to the public. Gingrich-Jones, half-sister of former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, speaks nationwide to promote the importance of coming out, the duty to vote and the power of conversations to change minds. Main St., Bloomsburg.

·  A reception for artist Sage Dawson will be held from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in Bloomsburg University’s Haas Gallery of Art. Dawson will lecture at 3 p.m. For information, contact Scott Roper, sroper@bloomu.edu.

·  The gender studies minor film series continues with a presentation of the French film Il y longtemps que je t’aime (I’ve Loved You So Long) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in Bloomsburg University’s McCormick Center for Human Services, room 2303. The event is free and open to the public.
·  Motown and More, featuring Souled Out, takes the stage at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, in Bloomsburg University’s Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall as part of the Celebrity Artist Series. Reproducing the classic sounds of the ’70s soul era, the group will perform hits from Motown and soul legends including Earth, Wind & Fire, the Commodores and Tower of Power. ·  High school students who are considering a major in the visual or performing arts will visit Bloomsburg University for Visual and Performing Arts Major Day on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Visiting students will receive information from Admissions and the chair of the music, theatre and dance department; shadow BU students; and participate in ensemble classes. A spring semester Visual and Performing Arts Major Day will take place on Feb. 11, 2014. Call 570-389-4284 for information or to reserve a spot.
