 Music Across the Pond
BB PITP The Williamsport Symphony Orchestra's Billtown Brass invites you to a "Music Across the Pond" concert Sunday, August 18, 7:00 PM at the Brandon Park Band Shell. The Billtown Brass, under the direction of Rick Coulter, will take the audience on a musical journey across Great Britain and America.
The band will open with the George Gershwin favorite Strike Up the Band followed by a collection of famous British marches, the beautiful Irish Tune From County Derry, and The Irish Washer Woman, that features the trombone section.
Entertainment is an important component of brass band concerts in Britain and Mammey-B is an all-time favorites. The British section of the concert also includes a charming march from the country area of the Isles, The Sweet Lass of Richmond Hill, along with the Beatles classic Yesterday and Academy Award winning music from The Bridge on the River Kwai.
What follows is all Americana including Morton Gould's American Salute and a salute to America's Armed Forces. As with all band concerts, you can expect encore selections, a surprise or two, and opportunities for audience participation.
The WSO's Billtown Brass Band was formed in 2000 to meet the need for a smaller and more "portable" ensemble under the WSO umbrella. The ensemble is organized in the style of the traditional British brass band featuring a full gamut of brass instruments (cornet, flugelhorn, Eb horn, baritone, euphonium, trombone, Eb and Bb tuba) and 3 very busy percussionists. The Billtown Brass Band is conducted by its founding director, Rick Coulter.
The program is free to the public (bring a lawn chair or blanket) and made possible through generous supporters and contributors.  Rain location is the Loyalsock High School auditorium. For more information, please visit or call the WSO office at 570-322-0227.
