Event held at to help young women with scholarship money

Dallas, Luzerne County-A show in Luzerne County Saturday night helped young women raise money to compete in beauty pageants. Singer Frank Shiner performed for "A Musical Christmas Spectacular" at the Dallas Area Middle School. He was joined by dancers from the David Blight School of Dance, The Major Performing Arts Singers as well as actors from  our area and New York City.

The program raises money for Miss America Pageant Northeast, which provides scholarships. Miss Pennsylvania's Outstanding Teen made an appearance at tonight's fundraiser to support the cause.

Katie Schreckengast Pennsylvania's Teen 2013 told Eyewitness News "This is going to girls that are innovative and smart and genuinely kind people, and they're going to go far and this is really helping them set a pathway for themselves."

Bryn Harvey,  Miss Wilkes-Barre Scranton 2014 added "It's helped me immensely, it's helped my family, so it's a wonderful opportunity to not only win scholarship money, but to be a role model and be a leader in your community as well.

Frank Shiner performed his new Christmas Single and said he was happy to be involved in the event "They knew that I had a new single that just came out, a new Christmas single. So they asked me if I would come and do some work for the pageant and I was more than happy to do so."

The funds go to scholarships for local young women who compete in events like "Miss Northeastern Outstanding Teen" and "Miss Pennsylvania." The program also helps the young women pay for higher education.
