A vacant home burned early Thursday morning on North Third Street in West Hazleton and it confirmed neighbors worst fears that an arsonist may be on the loose. Four fires in the same neighborhood have been ruled arson or suspicious. Nancy Yaskanich lives in the neighborhood and told Eyewitness News, "This is sad. I do my best to secure my home. We keep our backs against the wall. This is not the town I grew up in." Crystal Paterick lives across the street from the most recent fire. She said, "I really worry about my kids. We have to keep an eye on them when they go out with the crime that has been taking place in this whole area." West Hazleton Police Chief Brian Buglio said, "We are not sure if these fires are connected but we will continue to look for answers." West Hazleton Assistant Fire Chief Era Gould said, "We want people to keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary. If they hear about a fire watch out for anyone who may be leaving the area and get a description."
