POTTSVILLE -- Three-time defending Anthracite Football League champion North Schuylkill has been projected as the favorite to become the first team to win a fourth league title in the 2012 AFL Coaches Preseason Poll conducted Wednesday at the Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association Preseason Media Day at Maroons Sports Bar and Grill.
North Schuylkill received seven first-place votes, and the Spartans out-pointed projected second-place finisher Shenandoah Valley 79-63. Marian is third with 60 points; Tamaqua is fourth with 51 points, getting both one first-place and ninth-place vote; Minersville is fifth with 47 points, getting one first-place vote; Schuylkill Haven is sixth with 33 points; Mahanoy Area is seventh with 29 points; Panther Valley is eighth with 25 points; and Jim Thorpe is ninth with 18 points.
