The Clippers furious rally fell short in a 6-5 loss to the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees.
Clippers starter Justin Germano allowed three runs in the 2nd inning and Columbus never recovered. Gustavo Molina drove home Jordan Parraz and Kevin Russo provided a two-run double to cap the inning.
Columbus rallied with a single tally in the 3rd as Matt McBride doubled and later scored on a Jason Donald base hit. The Yankees added single runs in the 6th and 7th to build a 5-1 lead, but Columbus would mount a charge.
Chad Huffman singled, Michel Hernandez doubled, and Jason Kipnis picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Donald and Cord Phelps would each drive in a run to cap a three-run frame. Scranton Wilkes-Barre would get an insurance run off reliever Chen Lee in the 8th inning, a run that would prove to be the game-winner.
Nick Johnson blasted a pinch-hit homer off Yankees righty Buddy Carlyle in the bottom of the 9th to pull Columbus within one run again, but that's all they could muster.
