Coaldale, Schuylkill County-  People in Schuylkill County paid tribute on Wednesday to hundreds of U.S. Marines killed three decades ago.
A crowd gathered at the Coaldale Veterans memorial Wednesday morning for a ceremony honoring 241 marines that died in Lebanon on this day (October 23) 30 years ago.
It's the largest number of marines killed in action in a single day since World War II.
A retired marine corps captain raised the marine corps flag, and student cadets provided a rifle honor guard and a marching unit.
"We have a tendency to forget these things, and I know that 9/11 is a very important day, but I thought it was important to honor the largest number of marines killed since Iwo Jima in Vorld War II." said Retired Staff Sgt William Gaddes who organized the event.
A wreath was placed at the base of the memorial's battlefield cross.
