JORGE VAZQUEZ, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre YankeesIL BATTER OF THE WEEK
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre slugger Jorge Vazquez reclaimed the League lead in home runs this week by
going deep four times, most in the IL over the past seven days. He also paced the circuit with 11 RBI
and was 2nd with a .733 slugging percentage for the week. His power sparked the Yankees to routs
on Monday and Tuesday. He homered and drove in four in a 15-1 victory against Syracuse before
playing long ball the next night in a 11-2 blowout at Buffalo. Two more round-trippers on Thursday
and Friday gave Vazquez 25 on the season, two more than Gwinnett's Stefan Gartrell.
29-year-old Jorge Vazquez is a veteran of the Mexican League, where he played from 1999 to 2008.
He signed with the Yankees prior to the 2009 season, hitting .329 with 13 homers in 57 games for
Double-A Trenton. Last year he was with the SWB Yankees for 76 games, hitting .270 with 18 home
runs and 62 RBI. Vazquez is a native of Culiacan, Mexico.
