Penn State Football Post-Game Notes


Penn State's fifth-year seniors earned a 15-5 on-field record in Big Ten away games since 2008, winning at least one game in 10 of 11 stadiums.

With a 7-3 lead after the first quarter, Penn State has out-scored the opposition, 83-6, in the opening period. The Nittany Lions are tied with Utah State (6) as the lowest scoring first quarter defenses in the country.

Penn State has now outscored its opponents, 157-39, in the first half this season.

Penn State's first quarter scoring drive totaled 74 yards and marked the 17th time in 2012 the Lions offense has went on a 70-plus yard scoring drive.

A second half fumble recovery by LB Mike Hull made it six straight games with at least one turnover forced by Penn State. The Lions have 11 turnovers during that span (6 FUM, 5 INT) and 19 overall turnovers forced this season (12 FUM, 7 INT).

The second quarter touchdown following the Nebraska fumble is the sixth time this season Penn State has turned an opponent's turnover into a touchdown.

Penn State held Nebraska without a touchdown in the first half of the first time this season, also limited Huskers to a season-low six, first half points (7, vs. Michigan).

The Nittany Lions lost their first game of the season when leading after the third quarter. PSU was 5-0 when leading after the third quarter entering tonight.

Penn State opened the scoring at Nebraska, marking the ninth time this season the Lions have put the first points on the board.



RB Zack Zwinak's 50-yard touchdown run was the longest play from scrimmage for Penn State this season and is a career-long run for the sophomore.

Zwinak set a career-high with 141 yards rushing on 21 carries. It's the second straight game that Zwinak has set a new career-best, topping his 134 yards at Purdue on Nov. 3.

Zwinak topped the 100-yard mark for the second straight game and the fourth time in the last six games.

Zwinak re-wrote his career high and team season high with 178 all-purpose yards (141 rush, 37 rec.)

QB Matt McGloin connected with Jesse James for a second quarter touchdown pass and has at least one scoring strike in all 10 games this season.

McGloin tied the Penn State record (Kerry Colins, Zack Mills) with his 16th career 200-yard passing game. It was the eighth straight 200-yard passing game for McGloin this season, extending his own school record.

McGloin's TD throw was the 41st of his career and moved him into a tie for second on the Penn State career charts. Todd Blackledge (1980-82), Tony Sacca (1988-91) and Zach Mills (2001-04) also threw 41 scoring passes in their careers. Daryll Clark is the leader with 43 TD passes.

On the season charts, McGloin now ranks No. 3 in passing yardage (2,676) and passing completions (229), No. 4 in passing attempts (377) and is tied for No. 5 in passing touchdowns (19).

In his career, McGloin now sits No. 2 in passing attempts (825) and passing completions (472), is tied for No. 2 in passing touchdowns (41) and is No. 3 in passing yardage (5,795).
