Olyphant, Lackawanna County - It was a scary moment for first responders in Lackawanna County Thursday night when they couldn't find a young girl at the scene of a fire.

Flames ripped through the home on Elm Street in Olyphant.

Olyphant Fire Chief Dave Tully said when he arrived on scene, flames were shooting out of the windows.

They found a young man with a broken arm.

He apparently jumped off the roof to escape the fire.

He was screaming that his sister was still inside, so firefighters began searching all three floors of the home, but they couldn't find her.

Fortunately, crews spotted her about 40 minutes later on the street, and she appeared to be safe.

The chief said he doesn't think any adults were home at the time of the fire.

He was worried about the safety of his firefighters.

Two of them were treated at the scene for heat-related injuries.

The chief said the home is likely a total loss.

A State Police Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the fire in Lackawanna County.
