Wyoming Valley United Way 25th Day of Caring

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)  Volunteers from all different walks of life are taking time out of their day to help others.
    It's all to celebrate the United Way of Wyoming Valley's 25th annual "Day of Caring".
 

 Eyewitness News Stopped by the Educational Campus at the Children's Service Center in Wilkes-Barre where volunteers from TMG Health in Jessup were helping students with an art project.


    Kids enjoyed the volunteers help painting garden stakes that will be placed throughout the campus.
 

Kathy Bozinski of the United Way broke down the Day of Caring by the Numbers:

2017 Day of Caring by the numbers:

# of volunteers: 1,042

# of volunteer groups: 70

# of sponsors: 39

# of organizations helped: 38

# of projects accomplished: 53

# of volunteer hours: 5,210+

Estimated value: $122,747.00+

 

  The organization also recognized numerous organizations  during the program for their support of United Way’s 2016-2017 Annual Campaign including:

 

· Navient for the Highest Employee Campaign;

· McCarthy Tire Service Co. for the Most New Employee Campaign Dollars;

· Talen Energy for the Highest Average Gift per Contributor;

· The F.M. Kirby Foundation for the Highest Corporate Gift;

· Teamsters Local 401 for the Highest Number of Labor Leadership Givers;

· Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies for the Highest Number of Leadership Givers;

· Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield for the Highest Number of Loyal Contributors (employees contributing to the campaign for 10 consecutive years or more); and,

· I 2 M for the Most Educational Improvement Tax Credit program (EITC) Dollars.

 

Also acknowledged at today’s Breakfast were individuals and organizations for their outstanding support to the community and to the United Way:

 

· The United Way of Wyoming Valley’s Corporate Award recognizes two companies (one with 100+ employees and other with between 25-99 employees) which have played a key role in the community through their support of United Way. Both Mondelēz International and Choice One Community Credit Union have a rich history of rendering outstanding donor and volunteer support to United Way and the entire non-profit community, and will be awarded the traveling Corporate Award in their respective categories.

 

· The Sarah and Anthony F. Kane Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes a P.S.E.A. affiliated association or an individual P.S.E.A. member who has shown great support to United Way of Wyoming Valley. This year’s recipient, Carolyn Boone, is from the Crestwood Education Association, who serves as Head Teacher at Fairview Elementary, as well as Chair of her District’s Youth Panel, and a leader in number of community activities, including support for United Way of Wyoming Valley.

 

· The Rose Brader Community Service Award honors an individual for outstanding volunteer service in the Wyoming Valley. It is the highest award for adult volunteerism presented by United Way of Wyoming Valley. This year’s recipient, Mary Ann Fedrick, Ph. D., retired Dean of the College of Education and Human Development at Marywood University, is a volunteer and Board member of the McGlynn Learning center, Chairs the Board of Directors of the Fine Arts Fiesta and supports and participates in a number of community efforts with the Wyoming Valley.
