Winter storm causing power outages and traffic messes

Thousands of people are without power because of a winter storm hitting the area

MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) - The winter storm hitting northeastern Pennsylvania is causing numerous power outages and crashes.

PPL is reporting that more than 42,000 people are without power as of 11:30a.m on Friday, you can see the outage map by clicking here.

The storm is also affecting drivers. PennDOT has closed part of Interstate 380 in Monroe County because of crashes.

PennDOT has also closed Interstate 84 West in Pike County from the New York state line to Exit 46 at Milford because of a crash. In Susquehanna County, Interstate 81 South from Exit 230 (Great Bend) to Exit 223 (New Milford) is closed because of a crash involving a tractor trailer.

PennDOT has reduced the speed limit to 45mph on several interstates in the region. The affected interstates are: Interstate 80 in Carbon and Monroe Counties, Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County, and Interstate 380 in Monroe County.
