Wilkes-Barre City's 2017 Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting Ceremony

Here comes Santa Claus!  The City of Wilkes-Barre 2017 Christmas Parade.  Here is everything you need to know about the parade, line up, parking and downtown activities this Saturday, November 18.

 

Mayor Tony George is pleased to announce the 2017 Christmas Parade, which will take place on Saturday, November 18th. Participants will line up at 2PM. The parade will begin at 3PM. The parade will consist of 6 divisions, with over 80 groups, businesses, and organizations and over 1,300 participants.

 

Please be advised of road closures before and during the parade.

Motorists are advised that South Main Street from Public Square to Sullivan Street will be closed from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. The following roads will also be closed during this timeframe:

  • Northampton Street, from South Franklin to South Washington Street
  • Hazle Street, from Pennsylvania Blvd to Franklin Street
  • South Street, from South Franklin to South Washington Street
  • Market Street, from South Franklin to South Washington Street
  • North Main Street from Public Square to Union Street
  • There will be “No Parking” notices posted along the parade route. Vehicles will be ticketed and towed beginning at 1:30 PM. Participants and spectators are advised to use public parking facilities throughout the city and avoid unauthorized parking in private lots. No unauthorized parking in the Volunteers of America/Save-A-Lot/Family Dollar lot at Hazle and South Main. Vehicles will be towed.

     

    Parade Time and Route:

    The parade will start at 3:00 PM at South Main Street and South Street. Parade will travel north along South Main Street, around Public Square, passing the F.M. Kirby Center and then the reviewing stand, and finally ending at the intersection of North Main Street and Union Street. For the safety of everyone enjoying the parade, please stay on the sidewalk and/or behind fencing along the parade route.

     

    Service Electric Cable TV and Communications and WYLN TV 35 have partnered to broadcast live television coverage of the City of Wilkes-Barre Christmas Parade. The pre-parade show begins at 3:00 PM with parade to follow. The City of Wilkes-Barre Christmas Parade can be seen on Service Electric Cable TV and Communications Wilkes-Barre Channel 7, in addition to all of the WYLN TV 35 viewing area.     The annual parade kicks off the holiday season with a day filled with free family friendly events:

    11:30 AM:                            “Whoville” activities at Barnes & Noble Wilkes-King’s, including face painting, “who-hair” styling, coloring activities, and story time.

    12:30 PM-2:00 PM:           Making a Difference Ministries presents "Broken Road Duo"

    1:30 PM:                               YOUniversal Suzuki String at the F.M Kirby Center—come enjoy the sounds of young violinist perform in the lobby of the F.M. Kirby Center

    2:00 PM:                               Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long with Ms. Ruthy Stock on Public Square

    3:00 PM:                               “Here Comes Santa Claus” as Wilkes-Barre’s 2017 Christmas Parade Begins

     

    Immediately following the Parade:

    Tree Lighting Ceremony. Christmas tree donated by Dino Ferri and Paulino Nunez of South Main Plaza. Paulino Nunez and his children will light the tree.                                                                                                                                                   Complimentary Hot Chocolate from the Salvation Army and the Wilkes-Barre Lions Club.                                                  Don’t forget to patronize all of your favorite downtown Wilkes-Barre businesses!

Line-Up and Parade Route: Participants need to report to their division’s line-up location at 2 p.m.

The parade begins at South Main Street and South Street. Parade will travel down South Main Street, around Public Square, past F.M. Kirby Center and past reviewing stand ending at intersection of North Main Street and Union Street.
