Scranton, Lackawanna County-
A tri-axle dump truck on its side -- spilled tons of rock salt onto interstate 81 South in the Avoca-Area.   The wreck  stalled traffic for hours Thursday morning.

The crash immediately closed both southbound lanes of the interstate -- stalling the busy morning commute.

First responders from both Luzerne and Lackawanna counties were called to the scene.
They say oil and fuel also spilled from the dump truck -- and even they had initial trouble getting to the scene.

Eyewitnesses say the driver was able to get out of the dump truck -- but he was later taken to the hospital.
While truck drivers say they're happy he wasn't seriously hurt -- they were frustrated over the delays the wreck caused.

Avoca, Luzerne County - An overturned dump truck has closed both lanes of Interstate-81 South near the Luzerne-Lackawanna County border and PennDOT officials say it will be that way for most of the morning.

Witness say the dump truck was weaving near the Avoca exit around 7:30 am when it overturned, spilling 15-20 tons of rock salt.
As a result, both lanes of 81 South are closed and traffic is backed up for miles.
The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
PennDOT officials are encouraging drivers to avoid this stretch of the interstate if possible.
