Kidder Township, Carbon County - A search and rescue effort became a recovery mission in Carbon County as the body of a fisherman was pulled from the swift waters of the Lehigh River.
First responders from both Carbon and Luzerne Counties came together for the search and rescue of a 64-year-old man Thursday night. Reports of someone in the water in Kidder Township came in just after 5 p.m. in the area of the Tannery Road Bridge.
The Kidder Township Volunteer Fire Chief says 2 men were fishing in the Lehigh River, when one fell in. "Apparently the gentleman was fishing off of Red Rock, slipped, fell, or went into a deep hole, no exactly sure what it was," explains the Chief.
More than 5 rescue teams responded, but it was too late. They found the body down stream. The Chief believes strong currents played a role. At this time the coroner has not yet released the name of the victim.
