Sullivan County man sentenced for death of a baby

He plead guilty to third degree murder last month.

TOWANDA, BRADFORD COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)- A Sullivan County man who pleaded guilty in connection with the death of a baby is sentenced this morning to 20 to 40 years in state prison.

Jeremiah Cordell of Forksville plead guilty to third degree murder last month. It's for the killing of his then-fiance's 18-month-old daughter in New Albany, Bradford County in September 2015.

The district attorney says he pushed for a punishment that fits the crime.

"Fairly severe sentence but it was a fairly severe crime," says Bradford County D.A. Daniel Barrett. "A child is dead and it shouldn't have happened. It's a tragedy all around."

After 20 years, Cordell will be eligible to apply for parole.
