Seventh Annual Rummage Sale in Olyphant

OLYPHANT, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)- Preparations are underway for the seventh annual rummage sale benefiting Saints Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church.

Volunteers have been working since May- sorting, tagging, and pricing items that have been donated to the church. Parishioners bill this as one of the largest rummage sales in the region.

With a coal miner's lamp, a love telegram dating back to the 1930's, and furniture to fit any room, organizers say no one walks away empty handed.

"Our first year we made $5,000,' says Lauren Telep, the rummage sale chairperson. "This year we plan to make over $20,000, so this is awesome for our church. It keeps our church alive."

"Nobody leaves empty handed, that's for sure," says David Slachtish, parishioner. "We have people just walk in and their jaws drop because there's so much stuff in here."

The sale is a fundraiser for the church and also helps keep the items out of landfill. Doors open on Friday, September 22, at 8:00 am, and will continue through that Sunday.
