Scranton Fire Department Shows Off New Ladder Truck

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) Scranton has a new life-saving tool in its fire-fighting arsenal.

The city officially welcomed a new firetruck Tuesday morning at headquarters on Mulberry Street.

The new ladder truck will replace a vehicle that was more than 30 years old.

The new truck has an additional 15 feet of ladder -- which is significant in a city that has more than 80 buildings that are more than four stories tall.

Our ladders are getting a little distressed, the undercarriage was getting distressed. The Sandone fire -- the computer system shut down. We had to call Dunmore in for support...." Said Chief Pat DeSarno

The new truck cost one-point-one million dollars.
More than $300,000 of that comes from casino gaming money.
