RailRiders' home opener

MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) After a long seven months, baseball is back at PNC Field.

The Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders kicked off the 2018 season. While the weather wasn't the best it was good enough to bring out diehard fans to enjoy this annual rite of spring.

Fans have been waiting all winter to see the RailRiders hit the field. Winning a championship in 2016 they hope to watch it unfold again this year.

Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fans lined up in anticipation of the first home game of the season. Fans say nothing could have kept them from the diamond.

"I love baseball it's been my passion for I do not know how long. Since I could walk I guess. I would be out there playing if I could," said Raymond Dick of Kingsley.

Beer, food, family and friends cannot ask for anything else at the ballpark.

"Some of my friends come and my brother's friends come sometimes," said Lilly Warring of Scranton.

"That's what it is about, raising the kids. Bringing them to the games like my parents brought me," said Dick.

Something new to PNC Field is a virtual reality batting cage for fans to enjoy. It's the first in minor league baseball and all across the country.

"We also have a social flash media station. Which helps promote having people take photos of their family and friends here at PNC Field and have them post right to Facebook and Twitter," said B-Ray Snyder with the RailRiders.

As spectators take their seats the national anthem is played by the Mountain View Band. It's now ball time.

"These players are playing right by your home. To know they're going to the big leagues and they have a good chance to go to the big leagues. It's just big!" said Anthony Curra of Waverly.

Fans are looking to watch them go to another great season.
