By Andy Mehalshick
Wilkes-Barre Township, Luzerne County- A Virginia man is interested in buying the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza, so says an unidentified man who showed up last week at a meeting of the Luzerne County Convention Center Authority-- Donna Cupinski, Chairperson of the Authority, told Eyewitness News, " The arena is not up for sale--it has not even been discussed or put on the table-- I told the man who came to the meeting that we would entertain any offer but would make a decision that is in the best interests of the arena and area residents--" Cupinski added, "We are working to upgrade the arena structure to keep it in shape for people who attend the many events at the venue--" Cupinski says the arena is valued at around $65 million dollars and has some $30 million in outstanding debt--much of the debt is connected to the construction of the arena in 1998 and 1999-- The I-Team has leads on the identity of the Virginia man who supposedly has an interest in buying the arena and will have more on that person in the days ahead-- The man is expected to file a Right To know Request to obtain the financial records of the arena over the past five years--
