Update: Crash involving PennDOT crew

TOBYHANNA TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) -- Eyewitness News is learning more about a bad crash involving a construction crew in the Poconos.

Part of Interstate 80 was shut down Tuesday afternoon after State Police said a tractor trailer hit a car and pushed it into three PennDOT employees.

It happened on Interstate 80 westbound in Tobyhanna Township.  The construction workers were patching potholes at the time of the crash.

State Police said the workers, Barrington Harze, Jeffrey Smith, and John Poccia, were injured in the wreck and taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

The driver of the car, Hishamar Falconer, and her passenger, Rita Staples, were not hurt.  An infant in the back seat was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest for minor injuries.

State Police identified the truck driver as Khurshed Naimov.  Troopers have not officially charged the driver, because the crash reconstruction team is still investigating.  Investigators said he could potentially face charges related to following too closely.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 80 were shut down near the Interstate 380 split, and traffic backed up for miles.
