Penn College Students Help Build a Better Community

(WBRE/WYOU)  Penn College students took advantage of the nice weather Wednesday.. to move their classroom outside.

15 students in the 'School of Construction and Design' spent the day rebuilding a brick wall outside 'Calvary Baptist Church' in Williamsport.

It's part of the school's off campus project.

They help local non-profits with construction, masonry work, surveying and more.
And women are gaining interest in this kind of field.

"You can't slack you actually have to do the work that the men do and it's nice to have the girls there to put the girls touch on it." Said Gwen Wagner, junior at Penn College

Katherine Mertes, a Junior at Penn College added
"It's nice to actually be out here  doing something in the community rather than just being in the classroom. Getting some hands on work."

The class has one more project on their 'to do list' by the end of the semester.
Then they will pick up their community work in the fall.
