Penalty Phase in the Con-Ui Begins

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) A man found guilty for stabbing a corrections officer 200 times and killing him  will soon learn his fate as the sentencing phase of the trial begins Monday.
Opening statements have just  are underway in the penalty phase for Jessie Con-Ui.
Lawyers for Con-Ui are asking jurors to consider 57 different things that could help spare the convicted killers life.
Earlier this month, the same jury unanimously decided Con-Ui was guilty of killing corrective officer Eric Williams at the federal prison near Waymart in 2013.

Con-Ui's attorneys believe their clients more than 2 decades in prison asylum contributed to his state of mind the night he stabbed Eric Williams more than 200 times.

They will try to show he stabbed very at the age of 15 and in the Arizona prison system at the age of 19.

Defense lawyers say Con-Ui deserves to die not only for the death of Eric Williams, but also a 14 year crime spree dating back to 1999.

They say the murder at the prison in Wayne County wasn't his first.

Prosecutors detailed how he was convicted to cocaine possession.

Prosecutors say Con-Ui has assaulted three
inmates and threatened to harm other federal corrective officers at other prisons.
