Dan Bylsma loves goals.
  ....On and off the ice

When he started his coaching career in 2004, bylsma set goals for himself...
  ...3 years...5 years...7 years...

In 2009 he started the season as the head coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. At the end of the season he was raising the Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh.

"That year when you talk about how quickly some of those goals came that year. I crossed not only 1st year goals, but 3 years goals, and some of the 5 year goals...It happened so quickly.

Despite an incredible rise to success that's never been seen before in the NHL...One lone goal still remained...

"Certainly one of those goals was to be involved with coaching for USA Hockey"

Then over the summer, Bylsma crossed another goal off his list...
He was asked to lead team USA at the Winter Olympics in Sochi...

A decision his current players fully support.

As for Olympic  memories, Bylsma told Tim he was watching Joker's Wild on a Friday night in Michigan when he learned the United States Hockey Team  defeated the Soviets in Lake Placid at the 1980 Winter Olympics...
He said he couldn't emulate Herb Brooks speech  before that legendary win...but he was planning to honor the former Penguins Coach when team USA faces off against the Russians.

"I've thought about getting a similar sport coat to what he wore in that game against the Russians to pay a little homage to Brooks and his speech, but I'm just going to be Dan Bylsma.
