Olympic luger Jayson Terdiman back in Berwick

BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) -- A two-time Olympic luger, and Columbia County native, has returned to his hometown.

Jayson Terdiman is back in Berwick after competing in South Korea.  He told Eyewitness News it's his dream to win a medal, but it's an honor to represent his country on the world stage.

This weekend Jayson has a chance to thank the community that has supported him every step of the way.

He was busy helping his mom Kathryn set up a gift card bingo event at the Elks Lodge to cover some of his expenses.

Tickets for Saturday's fundraiser sold out in less than 24 hours, and people in the Columbia County community came through with almost 100 baskets for the raffle.

"When I have a great race, I know this town is celebrating with me, and when I don't have a great performance, I know they always have my back!" said Jayson.

"We've had so much help and support!" said Kathryn.  "I wouldn't trade to live anywhere else because of the people here!"

Jayson and his partner Matt Mortensen placed 10th in men's double luge, but just missed the podium with a 4th place finish in the luge team relay.

The 29-year-old is hoping for a shot at redemption with his sights set on competing in the 2022 Beijing Winter Games.
