Oldest Hill Climb in the Country

Laurel Run, Luzerne County-The oldest hill climb in the country is in full gear this weekend in Luzerne County.

Racers are taking on the steep incline and hairpin turns of "Giants Despair Hillclimb".

The more than 100-year-old event is happening on East Northampton Street in Laurel Run near Wilkes-Barre.

It's the steepest hill race on the East Coast.

One organizer who holds the record for the fastest hillclimb says the thrill of the race appeals to all ages.

"A lot of people come out and they love it because they can come up and personal with the cars and the drivers and it's a lot of fun for the whole family," Darryl Danko said.

Giants despair Hillclimb continues until 5 this evening in Luzerne County.
