The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute will be the focus of Sunday’s Newsmakers on WBRE and WYOU. The monthly public affairs program is hosted by

Senior Producer Jayne Ann Bugda and the I-Team’s Andy Mehalshick.


 Joining Bugda and Mehalshick will be Karen Saunders, NRCI President; Christopher A. Peters, MD, Northeast Radiation Oncology Center ,Elizabeth Zygmunt, NEPA Business Journal –Co- Chair of the NRCI Survivor’s Celebration and Lindsey Fredericks, NRCI Community Relations Coordinator.

  The panel will discuss the programs and services offered by the Cancer Institute, the Patient Navigation Program and Cancer Registry.  They will also talk about the upcoming “Cancer Survivors Celebration”  at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre and McDade Park in Scranton  in September.

Newsmakers airs Sunday, August 10 at 6:30 am on WYOU and 11:30 am on WBRE.

The Cancer Institute offers a variety of free community education programs that focus on the prevention and early detection of cancer

“Cancer Survivors Celebration” 

 Saturday, September 20th at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre

  Saturday, September 27th at McDade Park in Scranton. 

10am – 12pm

The event provides cancer survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals the opportunity to gather and meet others who know first-hand the impact of a cancer diagnosis.  The highlight of the Celebration will be the Circle of Survivors, allowing participants the opportunity to make a personal, inspirational statement about their cancer experience.  Light refreshments will also be served after a brief speaking program.
