?Buy Fresh, Buy Local? is the topic of this Sunday?s Newsmakers on WBRE TV.

   Senior Producer Jayne Ann Bugda and I-Team Reporter Andy Mehalshick host the monthly Public Affairs Program.

   They will have as their guests Elaine Tweedy and Maria Montenegro of the Buy Fresh Buy Local Program.  They will discuss the many benefits of the program to farmers, businesses and the consumers.  Tweedy and Montenegro will discuss how the program helps promote and celebrate farm based businesses through a number of programs and activities planned throughout the area.

     They will also focus on knowing where you food comes from as a main benefit to the Buy Fresh Buy Local program.

    Newsmakers will air this Sunday, July 25 at 5:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on WBRE TV. It will re-broadcast on WBRE on Sunday, August 1, at 5:30 a.m. The show will also air July 31st at 6 a.m. on WYOU TV.

 BUY FRESH BUY LOCAL CHAPTER CELEBRATES LOCAL FOODS WEEK AT MILLER?S ORCHARDS FARM MARKET The Northeast Region Chapter of Buy Fresh Buy Local will hold a Local Harvest Dinner on August 21, 2010 at Miller's Orchards Farm Market in Scott Township.  The event will mark the culmination of Local Foods Week, August 16 - 20, and promises to be both educational and fun. 

Buy Fresh Buy Local is a trademark of FoodRoutes, a national organization dedicated to educating consumers about their local farms which produce products such as vegetables, fruit, eggs, poultry, pork, beef and value added products like jams, jellies, sauces, and bakery goods.

 The Pennsylvania Buy Fresh Buy Local initiative is managed by the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, in Manheim, PA.  The host farmers for this event are the Peregrim Family. Miller's Orchards Farm Market, 1421 Fairview Road, Scott Township, is a family farm nestled between Northeast Pennsylvania's Endless Mountains and the Poconos. It is a year round food-producing farm, greenhouse, market and bakery that opens it gates to visitors to enjoy the adventures of farm life. The barbecue will be held on August 21, 2010, beginning at 5:30 pm with a farm tour. The cost per person is $20.00. There will be great local food, a farm tour, vendors, and music. The menu will include Miller?s Farm-raised chicken, corn on the cob, potatoes, applesauce, iced tea, apple pie and ice cream.
