Wyoming Valley West School District has implemented a new attendance and truancy policy for this school year.
After a students third unexcused absence the district will send a legal notice to their guardian.
If the problem continues to a fourth and fifth unlawful absence, a citation will be issued to the family to appear in front of a magistrate.
Superintendent Charles Suppon says it's a step needed to keep students in the classroom.
