Mountain Top community supports Herbst family

MOUNTAIN TOP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) -- A Luzerne County community comes together to support a family recovering from a horrific pedestrian crash. Christ United Methodist Church in Mountain Top partnered with Crestwood High School students in Key Club to hold a fundraiser for the Herbst family.

"We hope we can raise a little bit of money for medical costs, but it's more than that -- it's difficult to work when you're injured just want to show the family that the community of mountain top is behind them 100 percent," said a band member supporting the family.

His band Radio Rehab rocked out on the lawn... Entertaining a crowd of all ages. There was a lot to do, from magic shows, to reptile presentations, there was something for everyone.

The mother, Nina Herbst, her four young children and niece are back home recovering.

"It's fantastic to know that god's healing touch has been with them and that the kids are great. The kids are back in school and that they're healing well," said a church member.

But the father, 35-year-old Bryan Herbst, is still fighting.

"Making progress... Dad's not at home yet. He had a procedure and still has recovery and rehab to do," said the church pastor.

And with so many helping hands, a journey that's made just a little bit easier.
