Midnight Deadline for PA Tax Amnesty

(WBRE/WYOU)   If you owe back taxes to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania time is running out to pay up.  The I-Team's Andy Mehalshick has the facts and figures.

A 60 day tax amnesty period ends at midnight tonight, June 19.
The program enables those who owes taxes to pay up or make payment arrangements to avoid penalties.

"If you haven't gotten into the amnesty program you're going to be charged an additional 5 percent penalty." said Karen Hazleton, CPA.

Notices about tax amnesty were mailed to delinquent taxpayers from all Pennsylvania counties and every U.S. state.

To encourage taxpayers who are flying under the radar and not paying taxes to come forward, the department only requires those individuals and businesses to file and pay taxes dating back to January 1, 2011.

Taxpayers can apply or get more information at backtax.pa.gov or by calling 844-PA-STATE-TAX (1-844-727-8283).  The call center has extended hours Monday from 8:00 a.m. to midnight
